Dear RUN,

Are you wondering what’s coming next for RUN, after the major accomplishment of helping get $1 billion for homeless housing and services into the state budget? Here’s a rundown of what RUN will look like for the next few months.

  • This Wednesday is our final RUN Summer Marathoners training. If you joined us for the one in May or June or both, please come to the final training, which will put them both together to help you talk to your neighbors about homelessness.
  • Those conversations will help you in August, when many of our regions will be holding in-person events to make sure more people know about RUN. You can help doorknock or phonebank to spread the word - or maybe you’d love to help plan a barbecue or Power Hour at an affordable housing development or park in your neighborhood!
  • We will not hold Community Care calls in August so you can focus on your regions.
    • To get involved, contact your regional organizer.
  • In September, every region will hold our regular fall regional convenings, which you might know better as There Ought To Be A Law. We expect almost all of these to be in-person, with some virtual options too!

It’s all coming together, and we’re so excited to see each other in person again!

Take good care,

Tori

CONNECT WITH RUN

  • We will NOT have any Community Care calls until September. Join us for the third Marathoners training this Wednesday if you’ve been to at least one of the other ones (you’ll get text and email reminders). Then check in with your ROC, listed above, to find out how to get involved with our local events in August!

NEWS YOU CAN USE

  • Check out this fact sheet to learn about the protections that were recently put into effect to protect tenants financially impacted by COVID-19. To access the state’s rent relief site click here.
  • You might have heard there’s a recall election for Governor Newsom this fall, with many Republicans running against the governor. Former mayor of San Diego Kevin Faulconer is one of them, and his plan for homelessness is, as Housing CA’s Chris Martin told CalMatters, a terrible one. “It’s warehousing. It really is taking us backwards,” he said.
