Dear RUN,

The world is changing, and we know it will be different after this quarantine is over. Some of us are overwhelmed with new stresses and others are lonely and bored. One thing we know for sure, though, is that we want to have a say in those changes, and we want to make sure everyone in California has a safe, stable, affordable home.

RUN met up on a video call last Wednesday, and we have plans to do it again this Wednesday 4/8, same time. In fact, know that every Wednesday at 1pm for the foreseeable future, you can find RUN on Zoom - chatting, planning for action, and sharing cute videos to distract ourselves.

One thing we’re good at is building community, even from far away. So besides the weekly calls, you can also find more frequent emails coming from RUN with info you need about housing in California. And follow us on Facebook - we’ll be posting more often.

We’ll talk one-on-one, too, on the phone or on video chat. Look out for a call or email from either of us or your local ROC organizer, just reaching out to talk. Feel free to reach out to us as well, as many of you have done - don’t be a stranger.

AND we’re starting a fun new thing: RUN Buddies. Do you want some extra socializing during this time? Fill out this form if you’d like to be paired with someone from RUN to have informal conversations with. We’ll try to pair you based on how you prefer to communicate, how often you want to check in, and, if possible some common interests.

Take good care of yourself and your people,

Tori and Jazmin

Connect with RUN

Here’s the link for this Wednesday’s RUN Community Care call. (If you were planning to join the Strategy Committee call, it’s the same link with a different name and an updated agenda.) Meet up with us on video at 1pm 4/8.

  • No computer, or it’s not working? Call in using the phone: +1 669 900 6833. The Meeting ID is 360 478 742.

Sign up for a RUN Buddy here! It’s a chance to connect with another RUN member across the state. You don’t have to talk about housing, it’s just fun.

News you can use

Big, good news out today: the courts have stopped all evictions in California while we are in a state of emergency for coronavirus, and for 90 days after. Read more here.

If you usually receive Social Security, you're getting a $1200 check from the federal government and you DON'T have to file a tax return to get it. Check out this Washington Post article that explains everything.

Upcoming events

Housing California is co-hosting an informational webinar with the Corporation for Supportive Housing this Friday 4/10 at 10:30am on homelessness. Joining the two organizations will be Jason Elliott from the Governor’s office, Senator Holly Mitchell, and Assemblymember David Chiu.
