Dear RUN,

We’ll see many of you this week at Housing California’s Un-Conference, which starts tomorrow and runs through Thursday. Cheers to Nina Jorgensen, Zella Knight, and Daphine Lamb-Perilliat, all speaking in support of RUN at the Un-Conference! They’ll discuss our AB 71 fight, the Roadmap Home 2030, and the language we use to advocate. If you’re registered, see you there! If you didn’t register, it is unfortunately too late to do so.

Next week brings the second Summer Marathoners training, building on the first training back in May about stigma and homelessness. Next week, RUN leaders will teach each other - and everyone else - about how their stories can actually beat back our opposition. This training is just for people who attended the last one, so if you didn’t attend in May, please wait for the next one.

By our next Community Care call on July 7, we’ll have a lot to discuss - will our eviction moratorium be extended? Did we get what we needed from the budget? What should we do next?

Find us somewhere in the next three weeks, and take good care,

Tori

  • We will NOT have a Community Care call this week because of the Housing California Un-Conference. Next week will be the second of three Summer Marathoners trainings. We’ll see you again for a Community Care call on Wednesday, July 7 at 1pm.
  • Do you live in the Inland Empire? You’re invited to a RUN Power Hour training series, every Thursday in June from 2-3pm! Attend 2 of the trainings and receive a $25 gift card, and if you attend all 4 trainings you will receive a $50 gift card and a Housing Advocate Champion Training Certificate. Register here!

News you can use

  • “It doesn’t make sense to allow evictions, when there are still billions of dollars available that could prevent those very evictions,” said Assemblymember David Chiu. It’s still illegal to evict renters in California who have not paid rent because of COVID, but it will become legal on July 1 if the legislature and governor don’t come to a deal by the end of the month. It’s a deja-vu moment, since we were in this situation last August and in January. Manuela Tobias at CalMatters explains it all here.
