Dear RUN,

I wish it was good news, but it isn’t: Last Thursday, the California Appropriations Committee turned one of RUN’s two bills, AB 328, into a two-year bill. The bill isn’t dead, which is good, but it means we’ll have to wait until next year to push for it again. That means one more year that people leaving prison - an extremely vulnerable group of Californians when it comes to housing, and a larger group than usual right now because of COVID releases - will have to wait for housing support from the state, despite how much money California has right now.

There is good news: AB 71 passed in Appropriations! Join the coalition, Assemblymember Luz Rivas, and Assemblymember David Chiu to hear more about where to go from here at a special event this Thursday 5/27 at 3pm. (Register here.)

That means RUN’s focus will shift entirely to AB 71, and on our summer homelessness advocacy training series, which starts this coming Wednesday. There’s still time to register right here, but do it soon, because we will close registration on Tuesday.

We’ll talk about what happened with AB 328 on our next Community Care call, which is NOT happening this Wednesday because of the training but will take place on Wednesday, June 2 at 1pm. See you then!

Take good care,

Tori
